Strategic Action Plan 2016-20 - Launch!

Members are invited to the official launch of our Strategic Action Plan and welcome our new CEO.

At the start of February the Board participated in strategic workshop to ratify our new 5 year Strategic Action plan (2016-2020) and to identify the 3 major projects for our advocacy in the lead up to this years’ Federal Election.

The Strategic Action Plan builds on the previous 5 year plan following our Key Issues workshop with members last year.


CEO Appointment

With a number of other key organisations recently appointing CEO's we too are keen to announce and introduce our new CEO. Following a very successful recruitment process we are on the cusp of making an appointment.

Chair, Janet Dore anticipates an announcement will be made to members next week. 

We look forward to introducing the new CEO to all members at the Strategic Action Plan launch on Tuesday 10 May, 5pm - 7pm. Please save the date, see above for details. 


Member Survey - Results are in!

In February we asked members - what do you value about membership? The results of this important survey, completed by a third of the membership, were pleasing and largely a validation of our work and focus areas with some constructive points presented.

Understanding what members value about their membership and identifying areas for acceleration and improvement is of great benefit to us.

Round Table Dinner Round up 

Our first Round Table Dinner for 2016 was held last Thursday evening at Sovereign Hill. 140 members and guests heard guest speaker The Hon John Fahey AC address business in regional communities.

The night was highly convivial and the numbers made it easy for networking, judging by the noise of the conversation!
John was amiable and knowledgeable across a range of topics but his most telling point was the loss of moral compass so frequently demonstrated in all sectors. He provided an important reminder of the values applied in organisations, are they just words or are they really applied and demonstrated by leaders? We can all take heed of that.

It was our great pleasure to announce and welcome new Corporate Gold member H Troon Pty Ltd, represented by Steve Troon and new Corporate member Pipecon Pty Ltd represented by Alex Gibson.

Project News

Brand Ballarat - The Moment is Now campaign

This project and subsequent campaign was born from Committee for Ballarat members identifying the need for Ballarat to engage, promote and celebrate what makes our city and region special and unique.

Initially targeted to capture the hearts & minds of the Ballarat community to be proud and passionate about our city & region, the campaign has broader appeal in terms of business, investment, tourism, lifestyle and liveability attraction. As such, the task team and Committee Board have endorsed Ballarat Regional Tourism to take the campaign to this next important phase. A new web page has been developed - you can see it here.

BRT will expand The Moment is Now (TMIN) campaign towards a greater external target audience and reach.

Congratulations to our Brand Ballarat task team for seeing this seed of an idea come to fruition, we look forward to watching the initiative grow and develop under the stewardship of Ballarat Regional Tourism.

Support for Ballarat Sports and Events Centre

Committee for Ballarat provided our strong support to the Ballarat Basketball Association's application for funding to complete the Ballarat Sports and Events Centre. 

In our letter of support we acknowledged the importance to the region, both economically and socially, of a world class centre. The centre will deliver a key facility for sporting activities, community events and gatherings. It will not only enable Ballarat to attract new events and grow the sports events and tourism markets but will ensure it retains those which have delivered economic and social benefit to the region over the past 40 or so years.


AICD Ballarat Company Directors Course

For the first time in over two years, AICD will bring the Company Directors Course back to Ballarat in 2016.

The course is scheduled to run across five consecutive Mondays from 2nd – 30th May. It will be held at the Mercure Ballarat Hotel & Convention Centre and offers participants the rare opportunity to access this prestigious piece of world class governance education delivered locally.
