Strategic Action Plan launch and welcome to Melanie

On Tuesday 10 May, newly appointed CEO Melanie Robertson assisted Chair Janet Dore with the launch of Committee’s new five-year Strategic Action Plan 2016–20 for Ballarat and the region.

This plan provides the focus, framework and impetus for Committee’s work over the next five years. Its key strategic drivers are Jobs and Connectivity, Sustainability and Innovation, and Community and Health.

Specifically, in the lead-up to the federal election, Committee has identified the following priorities:

  • Improving rail, road and telecommunications connectivity that will improve productivity and enable people to run good businesses.
  • Establishing a multi-million dollar emergency services hub at Ballarat Airport that will host the coordination of emergency responses statewide as well as a regional aviation firefighting service.
  • Supporting the City of Ballarat in establishing a waste-to-energy facility in the Ballarat West Employment Zone that will provide an innovative and sustainable solution to our region’s increasing waste management challenges and energy needs.
  • Supporting transition to a new economy based on innovation, creative thinking and new technologies.

Janet and Melanie emphasised that advocating for Ballarat and the region during the current election campaign is our highest priority.

Transport Briefing – Wednesday 18 May

 

We are pleased to have organised a special briefing of members from The Hon Jacinta Allan MP, Minister for Public Transport.

The minister will provide details on how the $518M state budget allocation for regional rail services will be spent.

Civic Hall Briefing – Friday 20 May

In response to requests from the membership to gain a greater understanding of the recent City of Ballarat decision regarding the development of the Civic Hall site, we have organised a special briefing for members from the Mayor, Cr Des Hudson, and Acting CEO, Frank Dixon.

Date: Friday 20 May

Time: 3pm – 4pm

Venue: Ballarat Tech Park Central, 106–110 Lydiard Street South, Ballarat

This brefing will provide members with an opportunity to understand the decision-making process, the approved design, as well as ask questions.

Staff Updates

Welcome Brenton

A warm welcome to Brenton Thomas, who joins the Committee for Ballarat team in the role of membership, marketing and communications support. Brenton will be working from the office on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Brenton takes on the role as Adele Nairn heads off on maternity leave.

Farewell Sofia

After four-and-a half-years as EO of LBWR, Sofia Fiusco, will finish in this role on 26 May.

Sofia will be taking up the role of P-TECH Australia Industry Liaison Coordinator at IBM, a position which sits within its Corporate Citizenship area.

Sofia's contribution to LBWR throughout her tenure as EO has been nothing short of amazing. Her leadership and engagement with the community has seen the program reach great heights. We wish Sofia every success in her new role. Her passion, vision, creativity and energy for creating better communities will be sorely missed.
