Annual Report 2015–16


We are pleased to release our 2015–16 Annual Report. This document serves not only to report on the areas of focus and actions of Committee over the last 12 months but will also be used as a reference document in representations we make in the year ahead to key stakeholders under the strategic framework of Jobs & Connectivity, Sustainability & Innovation and Community & Health. These three strategic drivers form the foundation of Committee's Strategic Action Plan 2016–20.

Members should feel proud of the work outlined in this document, as it is only with their support that this work is possible.

Round Table Dinner – Thursday 24 November 2016


 An Evening with Craig Lapsley

We are delighted to announce that our third Round Table Dinner for 2016 will be held on Thursday 24 November at the Mercure Ballarat Hotel and Convention Centre. Craig Lapsley, Victoria's Emergency Management Commissioner, will be the guest speaker. The dinner will also incorporate the LBWR participants' graduation.

Project News

 Halving Homelessness: Think Tank Ballarat



In response to the growing problem of homelessness in Ballarat, where an estimated 75 people are sleeping rough on any night in Ballarat, Committee for Ballarat, Leadership Ballarat and UnitingCare Ballarat joined forces to organise a Homelessness Think Tank in August this year to bring people together to help find solutions.  Love Ballarat Videos


 As part of the Love Ballarat campaign, the City of Ballarat has made a number of videos to promote the city. Two of those videos, Building the West and Ballarat's Strategy and Economy, prominently feature commentary from Committee for Ballarat Chair Janet Dore.

The messages of these videos strongly align with Committee's long-term vision for the development of Ballarat and the region.

In light of Timken's announcement that it will be closing its offices in Ballarat in 2017, Chair Janet Dore was interviewed by Gabrielle Hodson from 3BA regarding the future of manufacturing in Ballarat and the region.

Leaders Forum 2017


Applications are now open for the Leaders Forum 2017, Leadership Ballarat and Western Region's experiential learning program for emerging community leaders.

It is a year-long program that includes:
• opening and closing residential retreats
• fortnightly sessions from February to November (either full days or evenings)
• a Canberra trip to visit the Federal Parliament
• ongoing support from a learning Partner
                                                    • pre-readings and online discussion groups
                                                    • community forums and events.

Established by Committee for Ballarat in 2005, the Leaders Forum now has a graduate base of almost 300 people.

Leadership Ballarat and Western Region's New Executive Officer



 Jennie Courtney was appointed LBWR's new Executive Officer in September and brings to the organisation a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

She has over 12 years’ professional experience within the university sector in the areas of student recruitment, careers and employability, marketing and communications, alumni relations and fundraising.

Jennie most recently spent seven years working at England’s Oxford University, where she honed her program development and project management skills.

“I look forward to getting out across the region and meeting our community partners, sponsors, employers, alumni and, above all, future program participants,” Jennie said.


 New Members



 Since the Board meeting in August, Committee for Ballarat has welcomed seven new members.

They are Hstudios, represented by Heath Worsley, Her Majesty's Ballarat, represented by Graeme Russell, IBM Australia, represented by Jade Moffat, Fenix Performance Solutions, represented by Stewart Howe, the Commonwealth Bank, represented by Brett Chappell, RACV Goldfields Resort, represented by Stephen Roberts and Mees Partners represented by Peter Mees.

At the RTD in August, Hstudios and Her Majesty's Ballarat were presented with their membership certificates. At the RTD in November, the other five companies will be presented with their certificates, so please introduce yourself to Jade, Stewart, Brett, Stephen and Peter at the dinner and make them feel welcome.


Annual General Meeting

At the Annual General Meeting held on 4 October, Chair Janet Dore provided a brief report of activities undertaken during the past financial year and referred members to the 2015–16 Annual Report for a succinct summary of the year's activities and achievements.

Some of the highlights she mentioned were the Moment is Now video; the $518 million allocation for the Ballarat Rail Corridor; the appointment of the new CEO, Melanie Robertson; the launch of the revised five-year strategic action plan and the engagement of members through the round table dinners, member breakfasts and briefings.

At the meeting, the Chair thanked the Board members for their work over the year and made special mention of Jeremy Cowan from Mars Chocolate, who retired from the Board at the meeting.

Janet also welcomed new Board members Rod Walton from Haymes Paint, Dale Fraser from Ballarat Health Services and Phillip Lee from Ray White Ballarat, who were elected for the next for three years. | copyright 2016 | all rights reserved | unsubscribe
