State Budget Summary

Today I attended the State Budget briefing session conducted by the Andrews Labor Government in Melbourne. The key pitch is around delivery of election pledges and commitments made in the lead up to last November’s State election.

Built around the theme “For Families”, the Victorian 2015-16 Budget will deliver a $1.2 billion operating surplus with investment in key projects and services that target to support families in challenging economic times.

Key areas of focus for this investment include capitalising on new growth opportunities, creating jobs, developing a highly skilled workforce, improving transport linkages and supporting diverse industries to create liveable cities and regions.


The Budget will deliver a $1.2 billion operating surplus (total spend $22 billion) with accumulated surpluses of $5.8 million over the forward estimates period, reduce net debt to 4.4% of Gross State Product (GSP) and maintain Victoria's AAA credit rating.
