New Chair for Committee for Ballarat

06 Jun 2012

As some may know I signalled my intention to the Board some time ago that I would be stepping down from the position of Chair at the October 2012 AGM. In the intervening period, the Board has undertaken a process to select a suitable candidate for the role of Chair-elect and I am delighted to announce that Judy Verlin has accepted the position. Judy will continue to carry out her duties as Central Ward councillor until October after which, she will assume the role of Chair of Committee for Ballarat at our AGM. Attached is the media release issued to media outlets today. The Board unanimously endorsed Judy Verlin as Chair-elect because we believe she has all of the requisite qualities for the role. Judy has a long and distinguished career and strong track record in public life; representing her constituents as a councillor, the City of Ballarat as Mayor, and the region as Chair of Regional Cities Victoria. In addition to that she has established strong and lasting links with governments at all levels and across the political spectrum. This will be a huge asset to the Committee as we work hard to get the support of government for our future-oriented agenda. For my part, I am pleased to be leaving the reins of the organisation in such good hands. Over the last 4 years I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of an organisation that shows true leadership in both ideas and project work. I have also enjoyed the engagement with you as members who have invested money and time in making things happen. It is a period of my life that I will look back on with much pride and satisfaction, so thank you for giving me the opportunity to lead such a great organisation.
