Inclusive communities need inclusive leaders

28 Nov 2019

Another fabulous evening at our final Round Table Dinner for 2019 with Keynote Speaker Carly Findlay, Appearance Activist.

The evening kicked off with our CEO, Michael Poulton leading a pre-dinner Q&A with Carly and our Executive members.
Carly took us through her many life experiences that have shaped her journey to activism and advocacy.

For David Deutscher the dinner was his first as Chair of Committee for Ballarat. David shared with guests that it was his passion for Ballarat, building community capacity and fostering collaboration that drew him to the role of Committee for Ballarat Chair. As part of his official duties as Chair David was pleased to welcome two new members; Lacey & Co. The Integrity Group and Hygge Property Group and proudly presented both organisations with their membership certificates.

Carly's key note address had guests enthralled as she shared her story; from her lifelong childhood love of Savage Garden, the connections that she has made online, her work towards changing the narrative around visibly different appearance, raising our expectations of disabled people, setting boundaries and living with ichthyosis.

This dinner celebrated the graduation of 30 participants from the 2019 Leadership Ballarat & Western Region program. Members and guests delighted in celebrating the graduates and their year of leadership exploration and learning.

A big thank you to LBWR alumnist,  Lauren Baker from McCallum Disability Services Inc. for being our wonderful MC. Lauren's passion and warmth was infectious and invigorated guests each time she took to the lectern!  Thank you also to the fabulous McCallum School Leaver program participants who showcased their talents and skills during the dinner assisting with hospitality and guest services.

Thank you to our members for their continued support of our work and events.
