Future Forum - The Clever Country

08 Nov 2012

The Regional Universities Network and ABC News 24 invite you to join the Ballarat audience on Monday 19th November for the next televised FUTURE FORUM. The topic we’ll be discussing is: THE CLEVER COUNTRY – CAN UNIVERSITIES MEET THE CHALLENGES FACING REGIONAL AUSTRALIA?   In an increasingly globalised and urbanised world, the future of Regional Australia is being shaped by the challenges of industrial, technological, environmental and population change. Now more than ever, education is the key to future prosperity for individuals as well as the nation. Yet the Gonski report highlighted the entrenched inequality within our education system, with some estimating a 30% gap in education outcomes between regional and metropolitan students. So what can universities do to close this gap? And how do we ensure that they are meeting the needs of Regional Australia by producing skilled, job-ready graduates? And ultimately, what role do universities have to play in regional development and sustainability?   To debate these issues and more during the one hour televised forum, our host Virginia Haussegger will be joined by a panel of Vice-Chancellors from the Regional Universities Network.   JOIN OUR AUDIENCE AND ASK YOUR QUESTION! We want you to be part of the discussion and there will be plenty of opportunities to direct questions to the panel.   RSVP to attend futureforum@abc.net.au and submit your most challenging questions to the panellists. Or perhaps you have direct experience of the issues and would like to make a comment? The best questions and comments will be chosen for use during the broadcast of the Forum. However, directly after the Forum we will be holding a Q&A session where you will be able to address all your questions to the panellists. The Q&A will not be televised, but will be put up on our website.   LOCATION: We are filming on location in Ballarat, details to be advised upon RSVP   TIMING: Monday 19th November   12.30 pm Arrive at the venue 1.15pm Audience briefing 1.30pm Future Forum recording starts 2.30pm Future Forum Q&A session starts 3.00pm End of recording,
